The City of Calgary has been promoting home composting programs for a very long time. I’m happy to hear that there is positive feedback from the pilot curb-side composting program…
Here’s a cool video that you can use to spread the message: http://youtu.be/mQCz3Ygs568
Next, we just need to make sure that multi-family housing has the same options! Living in a row townhouse means we have no recycling or compost (can’t get it through our budget process even though the total cost would probably stay the same as we would have less garbage pickup). I am happy to report that the City has been working on this initiative and we may see improvements starting in 2015. http://www.calgary.ca/UEP/WRS/Pages/Recycling-information/Residential-services/The-3rs-reduce-reuse-recycle/MultiFamily-Recycling-Status.aspx I did fill out the online survey when it was available. I read the summary of the focus groups and it seems there is strong support to require multi-family complexes to provide on-site pick-up services. Here’s hoping!
