In Calgary, there is no requirement for multifamily complexes (anything 4 families or more) to have recycling services. As a resident in a 27 townhouse complex, that means MOST of our garbage is either recyclable or compostable. It’s very frustrating to watch people throw these items away because the community recycling depot is 2 blocks away…

Thankfully, Calgary is considering mandating all multifamily units to have recycling facilities. Here’s a link to the online open houses where the city is gathering input on what such a program would look like.
